One of the most memorable starts to any trek I’ve taken was a flight into the Himalaya on a tiny plane that landed at what many call the world’s most dangerous airport. Beyond Lukla, there is no vehicular traffic, and the flight in is the quickest way to reach the Khumbu trekking and climbing region from Kathmandu and other places in Nepal.
Once off the ground in Kathmandu and floating serenely above the mountains, the flight is one of the most awe-inspiring experiences ever.
We are but a flyspeck in the vast terrain surrounding Lukla, Nepal.
The euphoric feeling upon landing is one of both palpable relief and excited anticipation about the upcoming trek.
